Glaucoma Testing
Progress has been made with the discovery of the genetic basis for one of the two forms affecting Bassets with glaucoma. The genetic test for the less prevalent Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG) is available.
But to date, there is no determinative genetic test for the more prevalent, Primary Closed Angle Glaucoma (PCAG) nor are there diagnostic tests that are able to reliably predict the onset of this disease.

You can also order genetic testing of your Basset through the Animal Health Trust UK website. Click on "Canine DNA Tests," then select the letter "B" for the drop-down menu from which you will choose "Basset Hound," then select the number of tests of "Primary Open Angle Glaucoma" from the test form. You will then need to register for an account, after which you will be provided with the necessary information to have the test conducted.
