The Animal Health Trust, a British charity that carries out research into the causes and treatment of diseases that affect horses, cats and dogs, is conducting a study to investigate the genetic basis of glaucoma in the Basset Hound.

The research will hopefully lead to an improved understanding of this painful and blinding disease, and will enable us to develop a genetic tool that breeders can use to help eliminate this serious condition from the breed.

Researchers are in desperate need of cheek swab samples from Basset Hounds diagnosed with glaucoma to drive this study forward.

If you own or know of a Basset Hound with glaucoma and are willing to help the research, you're asked to contact James Oliver with the Animal Health Trust at the following e-mail address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
