AFFECTED BASSETS NEEDED FOR THROMBOPATHIA STUDY
Basset Hound Thrombopathia is a bleeding disorder of platelets. Dr. Mary Boudreaux of Auburn University, recipient of the AKC Canine Health Foundation grant for Basset Hound Thrombopathia marker gene discovery, is seeking to get blood from bassets affected with thrombopathia.
Grant money does not cover travel fees; rather, these fees come out of her own university-generated budget. Because Dr. Boudreaux needs to isolate platelets for RNA harvest and cDNA production, as well as test the platelets to verify the dog is indeed affected, she must either have the dog at Auburn University, Alabama when she collects the sample or be close enough that she can get back to Auburn in time to do all the work before the platelets are too old.
Dr. Boudreaux may be able to assist with travel expense for the owner and affected basset(s) to go to Auburn if they are not too far.
If you can help Dr. Boudreaux and BHCA by volunteering your affected basset(s), please e-mail her at boudrmk@vetmed.auburn.edu or contact her at
