Bassets in the Show Ring

Not every Basset Hound is a show dog. The show dog has the qualities described in the AKC Standard that most closely resemble that written description. The dog show judge by his awarding of championship points affirms that particular exhibits do indeed have those qualities.

We invite you to check out the photos of our Nationals winners, read and study the standard for our breed as well as read the articles that further explain and interpret the standard. If you have never been to a dog show we have provided an overview of the format. You should also read the AKC rules and regulations that govern AKC dog shows.

The following articles are used in BHCA educational materials for judges and exhibitors to help
in the understanding of our breed.
